“Over 60 Years Seeking and Recording Species of Life on Earth”, presented by Dennis Campbell, retired Professor of Life and Earth Sciences, Lincoln College

From his research projects as a university student to the programs he created as a university professor, Dennis Campbell has proclaimed his admiration for the species of life on earth. Dennis is now proposing to record ALL species currently residing within a set area, such Adams Wildlife Sanctuary. The presentation will suggest how this could be accomplished to help further our understanding and promote conservation of the planet’s biodiversity.

Join the Adams Wildlife Sanctuary team in a “count circle” at the sanctuary in a statewide competition to count the most bird species during a set period of time. Illinois Audubon Society’s Director of Land Stewardship, Jamie Arntzen, will describe the plant communities and dependent species during guided walks on the trails of the AWS prairie. The final hike of the season will take place on Wednesday, October 28th.

“An Invitation to Think Like An Ecologist” presented by Amy B. McEuen, Ph.D. Professor, Biology Program, University of Illinois Springfield

Program: In a time of global environmental crises, there is a need to cultivate hope and embrace solutions. In her talk, Amy will cover the highlights from her new book, How to Think Like an Ecologist, which she designed as an accessible and (hopefully) humorous alternative to bulky environmental science books.
